On October 19, 2007, the U.S. International Trade Commission ("ITC") issued a Final Determination that confirmed that all of the more than 750 accused cartridges for Epson inkjet printers infringe one or more of eleven Epson patents. The ITC issued a General Exclusion Order prohibiting ALL importers from importing infringing cartridges a Cease and Desist Oders that prohibit the named respondents from selling cartridges imported before the ITC Order.
WHAT THIS MEANS TO YOU:
SHORT VERSION: No more compatibles. We will only be allowed to sell remanufactured (refilled) Epson ink Cartridges.
LONG VERSION: Inventories of compatible Epson cartridges at major wholesale distributors beginning October 19th were not available to sell. Within 3-6 months of that date ALL compatible Epson cartridges at lower level distributors will be depleted. The aftermarket will begin distributing remanufactured Epson cartridges almost immediately. Most Epson ink cartridges are available as remanufactured and newer model printers will become available as inventories of empty cartridges start to roll in. Print quality difference between compatible ink cartridges and remanufactured remanufactured ink cartridges is ZERO since Epson printers use an on board printhead. Bottom line, the remanufactured cartridges will probably work better in your printer because it is the actual Epson cartridge being used and not a cartridge that is trying to look like a Epson (no fitment problems).
